Kenia – Land der Kontraste

Fascinating diversity in a land of contrasts

Kenya, in the east of the African continent, is distinguished by its enormous natural wealth. Evergreen rainforests, rugged mountain ranges, the pearl-white beaches of the Indian Ocean and the largest desert lake on earth make Kenya a land of fascinating contrasts, far beyond the familiar savannah and its famous animal inhabitants.

In three episodes we travel to the Indian Ocean, to the Kakamega rainforest and to the north of the country, to Lake Turkana and the neighbouring Samburu land.

In each episode we meet people who stand up for their country and its nature, because both nature and wildlife are under threat. At Kenya’s first elephant orphanage run by the local Samburu, species conservation is being redefined. On the coast, an initiative protects endangered sea turtles. And in the country’s last rainforest, a specially designed stove means people need less firewood.

While modern life has long since arrived in the cities, old traditions are still alive in many rural areas. In the cities we meet creative minds from fashion and music; in the countryside we learn about the rites of the different communities.

In our series we discover the unknown beauty of Kenya’s landscapes, observe fascinating animals and experience unique nature.

The film is in German.
