Magical Andes – Venezuela

The ARTE series “Magische Anden” (Magical Andes) is a journey of discovery along the longest mountain range in the world. From the Caribbean to the eternal ice, the Andes run for around 7,500 kilometres along the west coast of South America through seven countries.

This episode takes us to Venezuela, where the Andes rise on the American continent for the first time. The five highest peaks lie in the Sierra Nevada National Park, led by Pico Bolívar and Pico Humboldt, both of which reach almost 5,000 metres. The film by Alexandra Hardorf and Erika Rodriguez follows, among others, Alfredo Autiero on his ascent of Pico Bolívar and the blacksmith Daniel Souto, who travels with his mobile forge to the most remote corners of the Andes.
